MAJ (Ret) Robert T. White
Association Member Robert T. White was shot down down while flying a visual reconnaissance mission in South Vietnam on 15 November 1969. He and his observer, Lt. Commander John G. Graf USN, were subsequently captured. Both were held by the Viet Cong. LCDR Graf attempted escape in February 1970 and was never seen again. He was reported to have drowned during his escape. In Feb 1970, White was placed in a cage approximately 4 feet by 6 1/2 feet and about 4 feet in height. He was to remain in this cage for the next 19 months. In 1972 he was moved to a new camp but remained in captivity in South Vietnam. On March 29, 1973 the Viet Cong announced that White was to be released on April 1. He was the last American in the repatriation program dubbed "Operation Homecoming". The following are pictures he has provided taken during his release.
