Mohawk Friendship Mini-Reunion 2018
Back in the day, there was on occasion, a mini-reunion loosely called the "Alpine Friendship Mini-Reunion". It comprised a small group of folks centered around the 1973-74 era of the 122nd/73rd MI from it's Hanau days. This year a former TO, Rich Schaeffer, would not only like to host the reunion but vastly expand it to anyone from the Mohawk Community and call it "Mohawk Friendship". What Rich offers is around 10 acres of open land. There are 2 small homes with very limited bed space so what he proposes is to have folks rent campers for around $100/day (3 day minimum) including set up and tear down. Porta-potties will abound! RV's are more than welcome. His land is located on a private airport and flying in is possible, but contact Rich for information regarding that. The main venue will be a large hangar that Rich owns, although the fabulous bar in the main house will not close. (There is also a static 747/767 flight simulator for those that want to try). Rich started his aviation career as a 96H Technical Observer later going through the Warrant Officer flight school, and ended his career with the US Customs. He has vast experience flying throughout the world in both FW and RW aircraft. His land is located in Green Cove Springs, FL about 25 miles west of St. Augustine (a great place to tour). BBQ is planned and contibutions to the food supply is appreciated. It is BYOB although if you are a scotch consumer there is a pretty good suppy. If roughing it is not your style there is a B&B in Green Cove Springs and St. Augustine has a plentiful supply of hotels. Also planned is a tour of the US Customs Aviation Facility in Jacksonville, FL if it all works out. During his aviation years Rich has acquired so much OV-1 gear (see pictures below) that he plans to give away some of it through a door prize or raffle system. (Another great reason to come).
